On July 25, Henriëtte Schalk, Karin van ’t Westeinde, Anne-Riet Vugts and Rianne Machielse conducted the double workshop. After a long corona-pause there was finally room for a workshop again!
In the Arboretum in Oudenbosch, where it was easy to work in the open air, we were hospitably welcomed. We were able to work individually to combine the pieces we had made into one large work in the course of the afternoon. There was a remarkable contrast in the materials to be used: branches of Salix fragilis (crack willow) for a stand-alone construction, and pulp cane to add a color accent.
The pulp cane, by attaching several strands together with cable ties while tensioning them, was formed into a three-dimensional structure. It was nice to see how enthusiastically everyone got to work and how soon, with pride and admiration, their own and others’ work was viewed.
The different size of the branches resulted in very diverse pieces of work; we saw graceful dance moves, sturdy binks and balance artists.
Perhaps in the end, we thought it was a pity to put all these beautiful results together into one whole….
After much weighing and weighing, placing and moving, moving closer together and placing more spaciously, a sturdy work stood, nicely in the garden space. The beautiful wicker structures eventually became a mass among the branches, adding colour to the whole.
Result of this day: a special addition to the Arboretum, also by reusing the willow branches, satisfied workshop participants and a satisfied organisation.
